I didn’t know that, thanks for letting know. Although you can do another favor by letting know what the query would look like.

- Hey Julie,
Yeah, this checks the keywords in the anchor texts to websites.
Have a great day.
- You’ll have to do that individually, unless you know php coding to do that for you. Though it is not that hard to code, but be careful for the interval between the requests it sends to google. I already have around 3 servers banned from google because of sending them a lot of requests every second. Hope that helps. =)
- Sure, I’d say:
1) Above 50,000 is highly competitive.
2) Above 10,000 is moderate
3) Below 10,000 is low competition.
4) Above 200,000 is when you turn around from that niche unless you’re a big company.
Hope that helps!
- Wow, that was quick! This will come in handy…
- It’s true, but in competitive markets on-page doesn’t get you anywhere. Overall, I think that off-page is the soul of google page 1 listings. Are you familiar with google bombs? I’ve seen pages ranking for keyword which are not even contained in the page even one time!

It’s not a ‘game-over’ situation if you put adsense from day one. In fact, it has proven to be more useful for me for some of my blogs. The reason I recommend that is because majority of the people on the internet are allergic to advertisements. Most will consider a new website as ’spammy’ if it is too much loaded with ads from day one. So once your blog starts to grab some traffic, start slapping some adsense onto the template. However, putting it from day one works fine too. =)

Hey, It’s not an assumption. The supreme court of pakistan ordered a nation-wide ban of facebook which was carried out by all ISPs. Secondly, for rational businesses, every penny counts and considering the fact they responded shows that they did bother about it.

I think on page on page optimization is just half of the seo, more time should be spent on link building, traffic building social media marketing ect.
You are right half of the SEO stuff on the web is just rubbish, the writer either do not know the better ways or maybe do not want to share some golden tips.
Yes, I know about google bomb, it means if you have great amount of back links with a particular anchor text, your page will be ranked high even if you do not have any content about that anchor text on your page. Google some how find out a way to deal with it, but practically it still works, just be sure to gain the back link not to fast and also get few links from related websites and you still can get a decent rank for a keyword even you do not have that keyword on your page.
So far it seems vast majority of ranking is about getting back links, the one who wins is the one who knows how many links are needed, where to get and how to reach a certain rank target with minimum amount of effort/time/links.

You know that you can use both inanchor and intitle within the same search right? That will show you all the sites that have both.

Sure thing. Just enter this in the search box: intitle:”keyword” inanchor:”keyword”

This sounds like a good approach to checking keyword competition. I have one question, though. Could you tell us how many results constitutes a low competition keyword, a moderately competetive keyword, and a high competition keyword? Thanks.
Not a bad way to check keyword competition, i think this method would be very accurate, as accurate as we can imagine it to be out there. And more than 50K for highly competitve, sounds about right…. good stuff, thanks for the help.
I usually don’t leave comments on articles, but your blog post encouraged me to praise your writings. Thank you for the read, I will surely bookmark your site and come back occasionally. Happy blogging.
Typing - intitle:”keyword” inanchor:”keyword” - into the search box seems to be an excellent way to determine competition for a particular keyword.
What if I have a list of keywords and I want to check which have the least competition? Do I have to check each keyword individually or is there a way of doing them all at once?
Whats da’ diff. between allinanchor and inanchor cz the result values differs a lot for these tool. allinanchor is also tool to know the competition of sites for particular keyword….am i clear?
Putting the ‘all’ in front does just that - it requires google find all words in the element.
So allintitle:kw1 kw2 means google restricts results to those pages with all keywords in the title.
whereas
intitle:kw1 kw2 means google restricts results to those pages that have kw1 in the title and kw2 anywhere on the page (title, description, page text…)
So for instance
allintitle:rolex watches returns 3.1M results
intitle:rolex watches returns 5.6M results
the ‘allin’ version means all of it in the element (title in this case)
the ‘in’ version means rolex must be in the title, however watches can appear anywhere.
If doing competition checks I use allin without “” and I will start with allintitle queries until I find my client’s niche.
One last point is you can mix these for instance
intitle:”rolex watches” gold returns 73k results
This will give returns for rolex watch (or watch rolex) side-by-side together in the title and gold anywhere else in the page.
Hello, thanks for this great article. I’m fairly new to the world of SEO and was looking for different ways to determine keyword competition. I reckon the allintitle: intitle: inanchor will come in really handy. However, I’m not sure what inanchor:’s function is? Does this check the keyword anchor text of the site? Thanks, Julie.
