Moving from 3arn.Net to www.3arn.NetWritten by Abdulrehman on July 8th, 2008
I have been thinking to write about it for a while when I got this question from one of my blog’s readers that why I switched the blog from simply 3arn.Net to www.3arn.net. I took this step on 29th June, and actually it wasn’t anything as special as you think, it was part of my growing concern for the blog.
Since the first time I used the internet till today, 99% of the websites that I have visited have a www before them which is now just like a part of the Internet lifestyle. Of course, I knew about this when I made the blog, but I had not been using www of the fear of losing visitors to the website who did not put a www before the domain, thinking that they would get a ‘not found’ page. So now what I did is that I pointed both domains i.e. 3arn.Net and www.3arn.net to blogger.com, and I am now using 3arn.Net to be redirected to www.3arn.net, which I was not aware of before.
However, there was another doubt I had in my mind of having a website with a non www domain. Since everybody wants good rank in search engines, I did a little search on the keywords related to my blog and I found that most websites on the top results had a www before their domain and there was not even 1 website which did not have a www before it, of course it doesn’t mean that my blog wasn’t getting indexed but it was not getting the same value as other websites. Although, this is just my point of view, no one knows that whether this really does matter or not. But as a matter of fact, since then I have been getting some good ranking in search results. If you’re running a blog without a www then I would recommend that you switch and see the difference.
