Bookmarking is a key component. With the bookmark bar, delicious, and other tools, fewer and fewer readers are typing in the address. RSS is a key too. People are going to click on the RSS just to get that number off the bar. That means they are at least thinking about your site. Takes time to build a loyal base though.

If you can building a loyal base of readers, it also impacts the social network or referring traffic. They are often the one’s who are digging or recommending your site. Same is true of fellow bloggers.
  • Do Firefox users really hate IE that much?
MIcrosoft still has a browser? :)

I love Safari. The bookmark bar is so clean and efficient. It’s never a distraction. Perfect design for a browser. No arguing against Firefox. It’s a great product, but I still go with Safari. With Chrome coming along, it’s a crowded field.

Google then Government. Interesting pairing. I give credit to Google their innovation continues to grow. When Microsoft was on top they got stale fairly quick.

  2. Thanks for the recommendations. I’d commented a lot about this in the other topic and you did some good follow-up on it here. It’s crucial to get strong branding and to have a domain that’s easily memorable. Also, the regular updates are important as it gets people needing to regularly check back. Thanks for the tips!

    My next task:

Buying a domain and domain space… And I agree with this point because one can have more control over the site and with more control comes better management which corresponds to a better overall site :)
    good post :)

  8. What if one cannot buy domain ?
    I dont have money.
    :(

    Abdulrehman Agha Reply:

In that case, you can work on a sub-domain. A private domain just makes you more believable and impressive. If you’re using blogger, you can just buy a domain for $10 and keep it hosted on blogger!

good content is also the key I think

  10. I think good content, updated frequently, is vital. Domain name choice is important too.

I have to say, we’ve seen a recent spike in our direct traffic, and even though I wish I could pinpoint exactly what has led to it, it is gratifying to see that traffic come in. It’s good traffic, and hopefully it means our viral and word-of-mouth efforts are paying off.
