Anonymous Blogging Vs. Conventional Blogging

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

Mr. Anonymous

Mr. Anonymous

An anonymous blogger is one who blogs under a pen name. He doesn’t reveal his identity to the readers, doesn’t matter what the reason is. Since I started blogging I have seen quite an increasing trend to this.

Conventional blogging is, well, just normal blogging where you don’t hide your identity from the readers. There may be a million and one ways why people choose the anonymity way to blogging, I will not be getting into that. But I will just be analyzing the merits and demerits of choosing to blog anonymously.

Instead of having you read through a huge pile of text, I’ll take the privilege to present it to you in form of a table. :)

# Anonymous Blogging Conventional Blogging
1 Not suitable if you want to build a community on your blog and increase interaction from the users who visit your website. Much more suitable and reader-friendly in terms of receiving feedback from the visitors and creating interaction on your blog.
2 Hardly any chances of becoming some kind of an authority blogger or a ‘mover’ in your niche due to your anonymity. Since you’re giving users a much better way to get to know you, a ‘real’ person’s opinion would also matter to them and you have a much better chance of having some importance in your niche.
3 Quite odd chances of making blogging friends unless you reveal your identity. I mean, you can’t be anonymous and a friend at the same time! If you’re a friendly kind of a person and allow your readers access to your profiles on social networks, you might as well make some very helpful blogging friends.
4 Much harder to build user trust. This is very important if you’re trying to sell something on your blog or are trying to collect your reader’s email addresses. People are becoming more concerned about spam and scams. When you get personal with your readers, your trust builds automatically. The problogger’s successful launch of his ‘31 Days to better blogging’ is a good example of the trust and authority factor on the success of an e-book launch.
5 You’re in a much safer position to try something shady. So, you can go ahead and try those traffic logs and other shady traffic ideas because even if you get caught you’re not losing reputation. This is a big NO for the not-so-anonymous bloggers. Your reputation count goes to negative if you try something shady, others will think of your website as spammy and you have almost to recover from that.
6 There are times when you just want to go too controversial and expose some bad side of a kind of a big blogger. When you’re blogging anonymously, you are in the most safe position because any flaming from them would just be hitting a blank face. You have to watch your mouth. The blogosphere is a big community you might not want to trash-talk and seem like the rude and arrogant blogger in the community and turn your blogging experience into a hell.
7 Better for MFA website. If your website is one of those throw-away websites that you make just for adsense then I would advise you to go for anonymous blogging. You can simply put up any type of content and make money. No worries about that. Not to mention, the nonsense content we marketers put up there. You don’t want to lose your reputation again and get flamed by people accusing you of trying to ‘make monies’ and providing them low-quality content.
8 Just not suitable for branding, in most cases. Perfect for branding. Provided that you choose a good domain name, make yourself and your blog brand-able.

That’s it for this little comparison between the two blogging ways that you could adopt. Now while I provided you with a more obvious side of the anonymous blogging thing.

For a new blogger wanting to achieve success, I would definitely recommend conventional blogging. There are many, many, many bloggers on the internet which may be a million times better than me at blogging and making money, and they are blogging anonymously.

My comparison was for the average start-up blogger because everybody does not have terrific humor like Internet marketing sucks or mastermind seo ideas like Slightly Shady SEO which cut out the anonymity part for the average reader.

So, go through this list again if you’re one of the double-minded people who just can’t decide which one is better.

P.S. You would NEVER  want to reveal your identity on an money making auto blog. Take my word on this one. *gulps*

Internet Marketing Fail

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I think internet marketers need to proof read their ads at least once before advertising on websites like howstuffworks.com.

Can you spot the ‘extreme’ flaw in this ad?

Bux.to, the story of a Scam

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I finally decided to write about the really of Bux.to. I started off with using bux.to around 3 years ago. If you remember well, this is how I got started into making money online. Blogging wasn’t until late 2007 and before that I was heavily occupied with paid to click websites.

To be frank, at that time bux.to seemed to be the best paid to click website to me. In fact, stats prove that it is the most popular paid to click websites as compared to popular paid to click websites of that time. It has risen to below 2000 in the alexa top websites.

So, where did Bux.to go wrong? Quite simple…

Traditional paid to click concept

Let’s go old school (thought it’s just been 3 years, ) and see how the paid to click websites started up. I remember the first paid to click website to be adbux and many other small paid to click websites followed up soon.

How these websites operated was over a simple concept:

  1. Advertisers pay the PTC website for visitors to their website.
  2. Users sign-up to the PTC website and get paid for clicking ads.
  3. The PTC website takes a part of the cost per visitor paid by the advertiser, and gives the rest to the users.

That’s all!

Pretty basic huh? If this goes on a small scale, it’s all cool. But when you have big ambitions and want to make a lot of money, you have a little problem.

I’m sure that there aren’t a lot of wise webmasters or bloggers out there who would want to be spending 3 cents for a visitor who would visit the website for just 30 seconds. The purchasing power of the visitor can be seen from the fact that he is clicking ads for a cent each. (No offense, I was one of them a few years ago)

So, basically this makes the traffic pretty useless and probably the only reason why a big number of webmasters wouldn’t want to be advertising on such a website. Moreover, even if there are a lot of advertisers, their advertisement budget would not be enough to cater such a large user base as it was in bux.to’s case.

The Dirty Game

Then bux.to played a pretty dirty game. What they did was simple, they started putting up advertisements without actually receiving the money according to the mechanism. For example:

Instead of charging $3000 to a person who wants to buy a 100K visitors package, they’ll give him a discount just to get some cash into the system. Then they’ll use that money to pay off a user who requested payout 3 months ago telling him that this delay was due to ‘manual check’ before payout.

One reason why this was working out was because most of the users never made it to the minimum payout OR never protested if they never got paid and left the program.

Long story, short. Soon, as more users joined they needed more inflow of cash. So, they started selling those referral packages and the premium memberships to have some cash rolling in and as of now, that’s what they’re depending on.

Apparently, they’re only paying premium members. That too only after a wait of several months or years. The system reached a stop a long time ago, I (along with some other users) just didn’t realize that in time.

Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, the bux.to mechanism flunked right before your eyes. i hate to say it, but yes I pronounce it a SCAM. :|

If you still want to check on paid to click websites, I’d recommend checking out clixsense. I also have an article on making money on the internet for beginners. :)

Earning Money Online In Pakistan Is Difficult

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Today I though of doing a post for my fellows Pakistanis out there. While you might be thinking that why I did not mention some other country or better yet, the whole world. The reason is simple, earning money in Pakistan is more tougher than earning money if you were in a country like the U.S or Canada.

Don’t get scared. I’m not saying that it is impossible. There are still loads of ways to make money online in Pakistan. I’ve already touched a lot of parts on how to make money. I’m just going to be briefing a bit about how different it is in Pakistan and how you can overcome those problems.

I remember how frustrated I used to be when I started off with making money. My initial strategies also included trying to sell stuff at eBay. Unlucky me, you need paypal for a good functional eBay account and paypal doesn’t offer services in Pakistan, which is pretty much messed up. :(

The bad thing is, eBay does not make use of any alternative to paypal. Which means if you’re in a country like Pakistan, you’re absolutely left out. In the coming days I’ll be writing about these issues and more on how you can earn money online if you live in Pakistan (like me, :D).

I’ll be talking about eBay, paypal, adsense, any other request I get or anything else I can think of. After all, Pakistan is a great place to live. Many people might disagree with me on this because of the recent security issues here but it sure is and I will teach you how to earn money from this country of ours. :)

Beginner Blogging Mistakes - Promoting For No Reason

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Back in 2007 when I started off as a blogger, I was totally off-track. As you might already know that I started off making money on the internet with paid to click websites. Yes, what a waste of time. But since I was quite enthusiastic about making money back then, I wanted to create a blog to promote my referral links.

In paid to click websites, you look for referrals who can come, click ads and make money for you forever. Since posting a whole bunch of links at places to let people know about it was kind of a tedious job, instead I created a blog, filled it with reviews and my referral links and then promoted the blog instead.

My initial aim was to get visitors to it and then have them to sign up for the paid to click website. It wasn’t long until blogger disabled my account with all of the blogs including the one I was using to promote the referral links. However, I was doing that for a reason, I was actually making money by the efforts that I put into getting visitors to the blog.

These days, I see a bunch of fully seo loaded blogs with no ads. The thing is, there is no point in doing SEO on a blog if you don’t have intentions of making money from it. Straight up. Unless you have other aims for the blog.

This thing gets even more emphasis when your main source of traffic is referral traffic. You can always play around with organic traffic because you know that more will be coming later on and you aren’t really losing a lot of money in the long run.

But usually the referral traffic comes and goes. You don’t have a chance of them returning or more of them coming in to your website after you’ve done the promotion. In that case, it is complete nonsense to have no monetisation on your blog which completely makes it promoting for no reason.

The most widely know fact is: Traffic is money. However, you need to learn how to convert that traffic into money else you’ll end up in the blues with no money and probably a loss in form of hosting fees.

My advice to all new bloggers is that: Monetize your blog from day one! There is no harm, I repeat, no harm whatsoever from monetizing a blog. If you think it will discourage visitors, no it wouldn’t. If that was the case, Google wouldn’t have been the number one search engine. There are thousands of other search engines without advertisements.

It will have no impact on your SEO. Why it will have no effect on your SEO is because Google will always be in benefit if you have adsense on your blog. Since, when Google sends traffic to your website, it clicks the adsense ad. Not only do you get paid but Google gets paid as well. I know this theory sounds totally absurd but it was just to diversify your minds from not monetizing a new website. So yeah, you can laugh! ;-)
